An “otsu” for yourself—today as well.
After a long day, enjoy a cold drink without holding a freezing, condensation-covered can. Slide on the cooler, crack the can and take the first sip.
Japanese has different words for different moments: konnichiwa(こんにちは)is hello, and kanpai(乾杯)is cheers. Otsukaresama(お疲れ様)acknowledges someone's effort and tiredness. It is said to workmates heading home, after a job is finished, or at the end of a long day. It is also heard over a shared drink after work, sometimes before or alongside kanpai, but it does not simply mean “cheers”. There is no exact English equivalent; “good work today” comes closest.
The casual shortened form is おつ(otsu). In Japanese online conversation, it is often written with the same-sounding kanji 乙. That is the mark on this can cooler.
Slide it on, crack the can and take the first sip: “Otsu.” Its soft, cool-looking texture suggests ice water and a clean gleam, making the moment feel a little more special.
